13 Nagapattinam fishermen assaulted mid-sea; one suspected Sri Lankan fisherman nabbed

In separate incidents, 13 fishermen from Nagapattinam district were assaulted mid-sea, allegedly by Sri Lankan Tamil fishermen, and robbed of their catch and their belongings on Sunday night (April 26, 2026).

One of the suspected Sri Lankan Tamils — identified as Ayanthan, 27, of Kankesanthurai — was nabbed by some fishermen and brought ashore on Monday morning (April 27, 2026) . He was handed over to the Department of Fisheries.
