Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Friday said infrastructure development works worth ₹52,000 crore are progressing rapidly across Hyderabad under the People’s government, with major investments being made for roads, flyovers, bridges, underpasses, drinking water supply and public transport systems to meet the city’s growing needs.

Speaking at the launch of the TSRTC-Metro Rail Common Pass at Praja Bhavan, the Minister said Hyderabad is expanding at a fast pace and requires advance planning to strengthen civic infrastructure and public amenities. He said the government is focused on delivering visible results through development projects, rather than concentrating on publicity.

He said works worth ₹35,000 crore have already been taken up within Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority limits, covering road expansion, flyovers and bridges, including projects being executed by GHMC, Hyderabad water works and other agencies, the total value of ongoing infrastructure works in the city currently stands at about ₹52,000 crore.

Highlighting the contribution of earlier Congress governments, Mr. Vikramarka said Hyderabad received drinking water from the Krishna, Godavari and Manjeera rivers during Congress rule. He alleged that the previous government, despite being in power for ten years after Telangana’s formation, failed to bring any additional drinking water source to the city. He recalled that while Gandipet served Hyderabad during the Nizam era, later Congress governments expanded water access through major river projects.

The Deputy Chief Minister also cited key projects and institutions established during Congress administrations, including the Outer Ring Road, Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, University of Hyderabad, IIIT, BHEL, ECIL, DRDO, BDL, MIDHANI and IDPL.

Outlining future plans, Bhatti said the government intends to expand the Hyderabad Metro Rail network by 122 kilometres under Phase II at an estimated cost of ₹38,000 crore, providing connectivity to the old city, airport, Patancheru and Hayathnagar. He said the 362-km Regional Ring Road project, estimated at ₹30,627 crore, will help extend Hyderabad’s growth across Telangana. The government is also developing 21 radial roads connecting the ORR and RRR, with alignments approved for ten roads and work started on two.

Mr. Vikramarka said Phase I of the Musi River rejuvenation project has commenced. To reduce pollution, 550 electric buses have already been introduced and another 2,200 will be added. The government has sanctioned ₹200 crore to convert diesel autos into electric vehicles. He also highlighted the proposed Bharat Future City across 30,000 acres and described the TSRTC-Metro Common Pass as an initiative improving urban mobility.

Today, commuters can use a single pass across Metro Rail and RTC services, with options ranging from one-day to one-month validity. Mr. Vikramarka said Ministers would personally review the facility by travelling on both systems. The initiative is expected to encourage greater use of public transport and reduce dependence on private vehicles across the city.

Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar, Vivek Venkataswamy and Md. Azharuddin, Government Whip and Legislative Council member Addanki Dayakar, Mahender Reddy, Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju, Transport Department Special Chief Secretary Vikas Raj, and others participated in the programme.
