“We will stand by you in every way during this difficult time,” actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) founder Vijay said in a letter to Sakthivel, a resident of Emoor Pudhur village who lost his wife and teenage daughter in the recent Karur stampede. Along with the letter, the party extended ₹20 lakh in financial assistance to the bereaved family, three weeks after the tragedy.

In the letter dated October 18, 2025 (Saturday), Mr. Vijay said he would meet the families of the victims after completing the necessary legal formalities. He conveyed his condolences and reaffirmed the party’s support to the bereaved families. “As said during the video call, we are completing legal formalities to meet you in person soon. Meanwhile, as announced earlier, an amount of ₹20 lakh has been transferred as family welfare support on behalf of TVK,” the letter read.

Vijay also expressed hope that the family would find the strength to overcome the loss. “With divine grace, we will get through this difficult time,” the letter stated.

Sakthivel, who lost his 35-year-old wife and 14-year-old daughter in the stampede, told The Hindu that a few TVK functionaries approached him on Saturday (October 18, 2025) around 7:30 p.m. and handed over a letter signed by Vijay. He also said that the amount had been credited to his bank account from Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam.

TVK had earlier announced financial assistance to the families of those who lost their lives in the Karur stampede, which claimed 41 lives and left many injured.

Some other families who spoke to The Hindu said they had also received the relief amount of ₹20 lakh on Saturday (October 18).
