Two-wheelers, four-wheelers, and consumer durable items such as televisions are among the 54 daily-use items where manufacturers have passed on the benefit of GST cuts, Finance Minister (FM) Nirmala Sitharaman said on Saturday (October 16, 2025).

“Since September 22 we have been getting information from zonal items on all items, of which we have been monitoring 54 items where we wanted to ensure that the tax benefit is reaching the consumer. Not even in one item has the tax benefit not been passed to the consumer,” the FM said at a press conference on GST Bachat Utsav.

Three-wheeler despatches grew by 5.5%, to 84,000 units from 79,000, year-on-year, two-wheeler sales increased by 21.60 lakh units where Hero Motors saw the highest monthly sales. Passenger vehicle despatches which are 3.72 lakh in September along. Tractor sales more than doubled.

“There has been a flurry of buying and selling in those nine days,” speaking about nine days of Navratri that culminate in Dusshera.

Dealers in consumer durables have reported doubling of sales on the very first day, i.e., September 22. Manufacturers have indicated that pre-bookings had begun and enquiries surged. TV manufacturers 30-35% increase in sales. So did FMCG items such as, personal care and nutrition items.

Actual decrease in some items was over and beyond the GST rate cuts including in such table, kitchen items and utensils too, the FM said.

The Minister said that this was not just pent-up demand and said that the “consumer story will continue”.

Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw said that there was 20 to 25% growth in television sales and sparked by a growth in demand, electronic manufacturing was now seeing double digit growth. In fact, he also claimed that there was now food deflation of about -2%.

The Minister said that he expected that because of GST cuts alongside annual increase in consumption, there would a 20%increase in consumer spend of up to ₹20 lakh crore to last year’s figure of ₹2,02 lakh crore out of the total GDP of ₹3,35 lakh crore.
