In a freak accident, two middle-aged women were injured as pieces of rock from a falling boulder, dislodged from a hillock, struck them at Koyinipara near Mamalakandam on Friday morning. The injured are Ramani Thankachan and Thankamani Ramachandran.
The boulder came down when the two women were clearing bushes in a farmland. Though they tried to run away on seeing the rock rolling down, pieces of rock reportedly struck them, causing injuries. “It is suspected that the boulder came down due to heavy rain the previous night,” the Kuttampuzha police said.
The injured were initially rushed to the Kothamangalam taluk hospital. Ramani is undergoing treatment at the Ernakulam Medical College Hospital with spinal injuries, while Thankamani was discharged after receiving treatment.
