Acting on the Supreme Court’s interim orders, a team from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), led by a Superintendent of Police, has arrived in Karur to begin the probe into the stampede at a rally addressed by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay on September 27. As many as 41 people died in the crowd crush.

An Additional Superintendent of Police and a Deputy Superintendent of Police are part of the team that has been camping in Karur since Friday (October 17, 2025) morning.

The team, which is currently holding discussions at the Circuit House in Karur, will get the documents pertaining to the probe carried out by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Inspector General of Police Asra Garg on an earlier direction of a single judge of the Madras High Court. The Supreme Court had suspended the SIT probe.

After receiving the case details registered by the Karur town police on September 27, the CBI team is expected to begin its investigation later on Friday.
