Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Thursday (October 17, 2025) launched a drive to raise an army of social media warriors to counter “anti-Bengal” propaganda ahead of next year’s Assembly polls. The initiative “Ami Banglar Digital Joddha (I am digital warrior of Bengal)” is aimed at countering the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on the social media.

“Recognising the critical role social media plays in modern politics, AITC (All India Trinamool Congress) has positioned this campaign to not just defend Bengal’s cultural identity but also to empower a new generation of digital warriors. The battle for Bengal’s identity is being fought online every day,” a statement by Trinamool Congress said.

The West Bengal’s ruling party pointed out that through ‘Ami Banglar Digital Joddha’, Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee “aims to put the power in the hands of the people especially the youth to lead this fight”.

Speaking at the launch of the initiative, Mr. Banerjee said, “Bengal, our beloved motherland, is being hounded, humiliated, maligned, and vilified by Bohiragoto Bangla-Birodhi (outsiders opposed to Bengal) Zamindars who thrive on lies and propaganda, increasingly in the digital space where the battle now rages.”

“It is upon us to stand up for Bengal’s rights, dignity, and truth, to fight back with clarity and conviction. That’s why I am launching ‘Ami Banglar Digital Joddha’, a people-powered, youth-led digital movement to protect Bengal’s identity, uphold its truth, and carry its message of pride and progress to every corner of India and the world,” the Trinamool Congress leader said.

The Trinamool Congress leadership had in the past launched several such campaigns centered around party chairperson Mamata Banerjee and party general secretary Abhishek Banerjee. Campaigns likes ‘Bangla Nijer Mein Kei Chai’ (Bengal wants its own daughter) during 2021 assembly polls and ‘Trinamool Naba Jowar’ (Trinamool’s New Wave) led by Abhishek Banerjee in 2023 were resounding success.

The initiative ‘Ami Banglar Digital Joddha’ is being launched at a time when Trinamool Congress leadership is facing severe criticism over the repeated incidents of sexual assault on women in West Bengal.
