To promote innovation in sustainable food technologies and aid the growth of start-ups in the sector, University of Hyderabad and its life science incubator ASPIRE-BioNEST on Tuesday announced the setting up of a centre for alternate protein research.

The centre, to serve as a hub for translational research and entrepreneurship, and address global challenges in food security, nutrition and climate change, was set up with the support of biopharmaceutical leader Cytiva under its corporate social responsibility programme.

“This facility will catalyse innovation in sustainable food production, fostering scalable protein alternatives including plant-based, microbial, and novel biotechnological platforms,” an official release stated.

Manoj Kumar R. Panicker of Cytiva and officials from ASPIRE were present at the inaugural ceremony on Monday.
