BJP State president Nainar Nagenthran alleged on Tuesday that under the DMK regime, incidents of murder of senior citizens and crimes against women and children had increased significantly. He believed the “growing spread of narcotic drugs” was the major reason for the rise in such criminal activities.

Speaking at a campaign meeting in Tambaram, Mr. Nagenthran said the law and order in Tamil Nadu had deteriorated under the DMK’s rule. He also questioned why Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, who had immediately visited Karur to meet the families of the victims in a stampede that claimed 41 lives during a rally addressed by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam president Vijay on September 27, did not visit Kallakurichi soon after the hooch tragedy claimed 68 lives last year.

Listing several schemes and infrastructure projects implemented by the Union government for the development of Chengalpattu district, Mr. Nagenthran alleged that the DMK government had done little for the district’s development. The National Democratic Alliance would unseat the DMK from power in the 2026 Assembly election, he added.
