Chief Secretary A. Jayathilak has submitted before the Kerala High Court that the enactment of an anti-superstition law in Kerala is under the active consideration of the State government, and that the matter is under process.

The opinions of various groups and the views of the departments of Social Justice and police as well as other stakeholders will be obtained. They may require time, and urgent steps are being taken to expedite the legislation in tune with the anti-superstition laws of Maharashtra and Karnataka governments.

The court posted the case for hearing on October 7. The court was hearing a public interest litigation filed by Kerala Yukthivadi Sangham, seeking a law similar to those enacted in Maharashtra and Karnataka to prohibit harmful rituals conducted in the name of supernatural powers.
