Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Mandya, said that a proposal had been submitted to the Election Commission of India for the setting up of a total of 101 new polling stations in the district.
Presiding over a meeting with representatives of various political parties on the reorganisation of polling stations at his office in Mandya on Friday, Mr. Kumar said that polling stations having more than 1,200 voters and those located more than 2 km from the voters’ residence have been proposed for reorganisation.
Mr. Kumar pointed out that polling stations having more than 1,200 voters have been facing problems of overcrowding and confusion during elections. Hence, a proposal had been submitted to establish 101 new polling stations, he stated. He also clarified that all polling stations were arranged in government buildings, and none had been set up in private buildings.
The Deputy Commissioner, however, said that proposals had been submitted to the Chief Electoral Officer for the replacement of polling stations that were in poor condition in Melukote, Srirangapatna, and Nagamangala constituencies.
Proposals had been submitted for the replacement of seven polling stations in Melukote, and one each in Srirangapatna and Nagamangala, Mr. Kumar said.
With regard to the ongoing comprehensive revision of the voters’ list, Mr. Kumar said booth-level officers will visit every household and distribute an enumeration form to all registered voters listed in the 2025 electoral rolls.
If there are any discripencies in a voter’s photograph, name, address, or age, they can fill out the form with necessary corrections and submit the same to the polling-station officer along with supporting documents to get them rectified.
He cautioned that names will be left out of the list as per rules if the voters fail to fill out the form and submit the same. Hence, the Deputy Commissioner in an appeal to the representatives of the political parties, sought full cooperation in the preparation of an accurate and error-free voters’ list.
Additional Deputy Commissioner C. Shivananda Murthy, who also spoke at the meeting, urged the political parties to appoint booth-level agents for each polling station to coordinate with booth-level officers to inform the public and assist in the comprehensive revision of the voters’ list.
Representatives from Congress, JD(S), BSP and AAP were present during the meeting, a statement added.
