An international conclave on ensuring the safety and health of the factory workers in the State was held here at KINFRA International Convention Centre in Kakkanad, Ernakulam. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan gave the introductory speech. Minister for General Education and Labour V. Sivankutty inaugurated the conclave titled ‘International Vision Zero Conclave on Occupational Safety and Health: Surakshitam 3.0’.

A research project titled Remote Sensing enabled Online Chemical Emergency Response System (ROCERS), which helps alert nearby residents during instances of poisonous gas leakage, was also inaugurated at the conclave. Apart from this, panel discussions on various topics were held for two days at the conclave. The two-day event was organised by the Department of Factories & Boilers, Government of Kerala.

The conclave aims to completely prevent the occurrence of factory-related accidents or occupational diseases by 2031. The panel discussions were carried out with the participation of a German social accident insurance agency called DGUV Germany, Indo-German Co-operation for Safety, Health and Well Being and Kerala Chapter of National Safety Council of India.

The session on ‘Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Applications in Safety’ saw the representatives from DGUV hold a session on how novel technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning could be incorporated into the factories and used to predict accidents and prevent them. Another session saw disaster management expert Muralee Thummarukudy, along with a panel of experts, share their thoughts on how industrial and chemical disasters can be prevented.

The conclave also saw an expo of safety equipment, fire and safety equipment, and AI tools, among others.
