Launching campaign for “Affordable Housing” Maharashtra Congress Chief Harshwardhan Sapkal on Friday (October 10, 2025), claimed that BJP-led govt is selling Mumbai, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis favouring builders. He urged the political parties to take “agitational role” or it will be “historical mistake”.

He also asked to release a White Paper on Mumbai Land Allotments. Congress will also host a “Housing Rights Conference”.

“The housing needs of common people are ignored, the house prices in Mumbai and across Maharashtra have gone beyond the reach of the common people,” Mr. Sapkal, adding in the 33/33/33 formula for mill land development, the 33% of land meant for public purposes is being handed over to industrialists at the expense of the public.

Congress Party has launched a campaign in collaboration with 25 different organisations so that this land is used for affordable housing.

While speaking to media, Mr. Sapkal said, “Out of 1,10,000 promised homes for mill workers, only 15,000 have been delivered so far, handing remaining land to industrialists.”

Taking examples of Dharavi redevelopment project, recently inaugurated Navi Mumbai airport, Mr. Sapkal accused Mahayuti government of putting Mumbai up for sale for their favourite businessman.

He criticised Mr. Fadnavis for giving Mumbai’s SRA plot to a man named Kambhoj .

Congress is set to host a ‘Housing Rights Conference’ on Sunday (October 12, 2025) at Tilak Bhavan in Mumbai’s Dadar.
