The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and the Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee (MCPC), under the guidance of the Supreme Court, jointly launched a nationwide, 90-day long ‘Special Mediation Campaign’, which concluded on October 6.

According to the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority, 46,676 cases were taken up for mediation across the State during the campaign, of which 5,524 cases were successfully settled. While 25,696 cases remain unresolved, mediation continues in 15,456 cases at centres across the State.

The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and Taluk Legal Services Committees implemented the campaign in Mandya district. Out of 48,932 cases in district and taluk courts, 2,595 were identified and referred for mediation. Of these, 2,121 cases were taken up for the mediation process, including 15 marital disputes, one domestic violence case, 22 cheque bounce cases, 13 partition cases, and 12 others — a total of 63 cases were successfully settled, a press release said.

A total of 1,602 cases remain unresolved, and 930 are still under mediation, according to Anand, member-secretary of the DLSA.

The campaign was conceptualised by NALSA and MCPC to resolve pending cases.
