Palakkad to host mega protest against Israel on Saturday

A protest against Israel’s ‘genocidal attacks’ on Palestine will be organised at Vatika Park here on Saturday. The protest titled Gaza’s Names will begin at 3 p.m., and will have different segments.

As many as 1,500 names of the children killed by Israel in Gaza will be read out by socio-cultural and political leaders at the programme. “Out of the 64,000 Palestinians killed by Israel, 18,000 are children. This chilling reality poses a huge question before the humanity,” said T.R. Ajayan, chairman of the protest programme.

Cultural leaders Vaisakhan, Mundur Sethumadhavan, Kalamandalam Sivan Namboothiri, T.K. Sankaranarayanan, P.A. Vasudevan, and T.K. Narayana Das, politicians E.N. Suresh Babu, C.K. Rajendran, K.P. Suresh Raj, Sumalatha Mohandas, and K. Binumol, and MLAs A. Prabhakaran, K. Santhakumari, K.D. Prasenan, K. Premkumar, K. Babu, P.P. Sumod, and P. Mammikutty will read out the names of the Gaza children who lost their lives in Israel attacks.

The protest will also exhibit 40 photographs depicting Israel’s cruelty. Prominent artists from across the district will gather and paint their thoughts about the Israeli attacks on Gaza.

A programme for children titled ‘with artist Jalaja’ will also be organised as part of the protest. It will also feature poems, songs, skits, short plays, reels, short films, and messages from prominent personalities.

The protest will be organised jointly by the Chintha Ravi Foundation, Purogamana Kalasahitya Sangham, District Library Council, Swaralaya, Yuva Kala Sahiti, Samskara Sahiti, Vanita Sahiti, Palakkad District Public Library, Kerala State Service Pensioners Union, Kerala NGO Union, Kerala School Teachers Association, Kerala Gazetted Officers Association, Association of Kerala Government College Teachers, All Kerala Private College Teachers Association, Kerala Government Nurses Association, Centre of Indian Trade Unions, Bank Employees Federation of India, KSEB Officers Association, KSEB Employees Union, All India Lawyers Union, OV Vijayan Smaraka Samiti, Kerala Yuktivadi Sangham, Palakkad Natakakkoottam, and Fort Walkers Club.
