Fire breaks out at playschool building near Katpadi

A fire broke out on the first floor of a private playschool building at Kangeyanallur village near Katpadi in Vellore on Wednesday.

Police said that a playschool is run on the ground floor of the building, whereas a real estate office is located on the first floor. It was around 11 a.m., staff in the real estate office noticed a smoke coming out from the air conditioner unit in the office.

Immediately, they informed Viruthampattu police and firefighters from Katpadi. Along with school authorities, they also safely evacuated children from the play school to an accommodation nearby.

After an hour, the firefighters managed to douse the blaze within the real estate office. Police said that an electrical short circuit in the air conditioner unit could be the reason for the accident. A case was registered and further probe is under way.
