Cotton fetched a record price of ₹9,260 per quintal from private traders on the opening day of procurement at the Agriculture Market Yard in Adilabad, Telangana, on Thursday (October 22, 2026), exceeding the Minimum Support Price of ₹8,667 per quintal with a moisture content of 8%.

According to the trade sources, this was perhaps the highest price fetched by cotton on the inaugural day of procurement in the State. The district Collector Rajarshi Shah formally inaugurated the cotton procurement process at the market yard.

He inspected the yard and reviewed the arrangements made for the smooth conduct of trading.

Official sources said that 33 ginning mills and 18 cotton procurement centres were set up across the district to facilitate the sale of cotton by farmers.

Arrangements were also made at the Adilabad market yard to provide basic amenities, including drinking water, to farmers. The ₹1-a-meal scheme was also available for their benefit.

Trading activity is expected to gather momentum over the next couple of days, as cotton picking is still underway in parts of the district.

Deficit rainfall, coupled with prolonged dry spell during the recent rainy season, is likely to affect cotton yields in rain-deficit areas of north Telangana, a major cotton-growing region.
