Three FIRs have been registered against JD(U) MLA Anant Singh and Jan Suraaj Party candidate Anuj Singh for alleged poll code violations and law-and-order norms during campaigning for the October 23 biennial elections to eight Bihar Legislative Council seats, police said on Monday (October 19, 2026).

The cases relate to a roadshow held in the Mokama Assembly constituency, represented by don-turned-politician Anant Singh, in Patna district on October 18, during which more vehicles than permitted were allegedly used, and sirens blared on several vehicles, officials said.

“JCB machines were also deployed at multiple locations in Barh town to shower flower petals, adversely affecting normal law and order. This was a clear violation of the election Model Code of Conduct (MCC). A total of three FIRs have been registered against the MLA, Anuj Singh and others in this regard,” Barh Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO-I) Ram Krishna said.

Polling will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on October 23, with counting scheduled for October 27.

The eight council polls are for the Patna Graduates’, Darbhanga Graduates’, Tirhut Graduates’, Kosi Graduates’, Patna Teachers’, Darbhanga Teachers’, Tirhut Teachers’ and Saran Teachers’ constituencies.

Anant Singh has openly defied his party JD(U) by campaigning for Jan Suraaj Party candidate Anuj Singh in the Patna Graduates’ constituency.

The JD(U) MLA has vowed to ensure the defeat of party MLC Neeraj Kumar, who is seeking re-election from the constituency.

Anant Singh had earlier taken out a procession in support of the Jan Suraaj candidate in the area.

“I do not know what the party line is in this matter. The fact remains that he (Neeraj) has opposed me on so many occasions. I must pay him back in the same coin,” Anant Singh had recently said.
