Minister for Higher Education Basavaraj Rayaraddi has said that Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar will take an appropriate decision on the investigation into the alleged sting operation.

Speaking to presspersons in Dharwad on Friday, Mr. Rayaraddi said that while some leaders had sought a CBI probe, others had demanded an investigation by the CID or a judicial inquiry.

The Minister said that people were issuing statements on the issue as per their own understanding. “We have left the matter to the Chief Minister. He will take an appropriate decision,” he said.

Amid the intensifying agitation by sugarcane growers, Mr. Rayaraddi said the farmers’ problems should be resolved at the earliest. However, as the model code of conduct was in force owing to council polls, the government could not announce a decision on sugarcane prices at the moment.

He said that the Minister concerned, the Chief Minister, and Union Ministers were seriously looking into the issue, and once the elections concluded, the government would take a farmer-friendly decision.
