Dharwad girl Ambika Nagappa Masagi, who won three medals at the Asia-Pacific Deaf Chess Championship held in Penang, Malaysia, has recently been selected to represent India at the 2027 Deaflympics in Austria.

Addressing a press conference in Dharwad on Saturday, president of Dharwad District Chess Association Vishwanath Baligar said that Ms. Ambika won silver medals in the women’s blitz and classical categories and a gold medal in the mixed rapid category at the championship.

A graduate in Computer Science and Engineering, Ms. Ambika has won seven medals at international competitions so far, including three gold, three silver and one bronze.

Mr. Baligar said that despite her achievements, she has yet to secure employment. He urged the State government to provide her with a government job under the sports quota and appealed to the Union and State governments to announce cash incentives in recognition of her achievements.

He also called upon local organisations and institutions to support the chess player. For further information, contact 7204169542.
