Aerospace and defence precision engineering company Sigma Advanced Systems has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with defence public sector enterprise Munitions India Ltd. (MIL) to integrate, manufacture in India and supply its 155 mm artillery course correction fuzes (CCF), along with related components, subsystems and technologies.

Course correction technology allows artillery shells to adjust their trajectory during flight, improving accuracy and operational effectiveness. Developing this technology in India would strengthen the country’s defence manufacturing capabilities and reduce dependence on imports, Sigma said on Wednesday.

Under the MoU, Sigma aims to facilitate technology transfer, qualification, local manufacturing and integration of advanced course correction solutions in India. The programme will use a Course Correction Guidance Kit that is already deployed by international customers. It will combine Sigma’s engineering and programme execution capabilities with its indigenously developed technology and MIL’s established ammunition manufacturing infrastructure.

Sigma said the agreement marks a step forward in its efforts to develop next-generation indigenous precision-guided artillery ammunition. It will also support the company’s move up the defence value chain, from precision engineering and sub-system manufacturing to developing and integrating advanced defence systems.

The partnership will also create a platform to combine international technological expertise with Indian manufacturing and engineering capabilities to meet the evolving requirements of the Indian Armed Forces.

“We aim to build meaningful domestic capabilities in a strategically important defence segment,” Sigma Advanced CEO Sunil Kalidindi said.
