Deputy Commissioner Gurudatta Hegde said that as part of the Social and Educational Survey, 80% of the population in Shivamogga district has been covered.

In a press conference here on Monday, Mr. Hegde said that of the total 4.85 lakh families, the enumerators had covered around 4 lakh households as of Sunday. The administration was hopeful of completing the remaining households within next two days, he said.

In Sorab taluk, 100% has been completed, while in Shikaripur, the enumerators completed 90% of the households, he said.

With regard to villages in the Malnad region, where the telephone network had been poor, Mr. Hegde said the administration had made alternative arrangements to collect data from the families.

Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer N. Hemanth said that the administration has identified 250 places in the district where there was a poor telephone network connectivity. And arrangements had been made to collect data at offices of gram panchayats and schools in such rural areas.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Abhishek V. and District Officer of Backward Classes Welfare Department Shobha were present at the press conference.
