BJP State president B.Y. Vijayendra on Sunday said the BJP had decided to lay siege to police stations as well as the offices of Superintendents of Police if the government continued to file FIRs against party workers with respect to the Form 7 issue.

Briefing presspersons after a meeting of the party’s State core committee in the presence of the newly appointed co in-charge Kasam Venkateshwarlu, he said the Congress government in Karnataka had created confusion with respect to SIR in general and Form 7 in particular. He said the High Court of Karnataka had pulled up the State government with respect to the filing of FIRs against BJP workers.

He said the party core committee had opposed the decision of the government to extend power to issue permanent residential certificate with respect to SIR to even Panchayat Development Officers and Municipal Commissioners.

Arguing that such a power should be vested only with officers of the grade of tahsildars and above, he said the party would write to the government seeking withdrawal of such powers, besides drawing the Election Commission of India’s attention in this regard.

He said the core committee had expressed a view that the party should field its candidate in the forthcoming Assembly byelection by taking its coalition partner, the JD(S), into confidence.

He urged the government to desist from putting off the elections to rural local bodies. The core committee had decided to appoint an in-charge leader for every district to monitor the party’s preparations for the taluk and the zilla panchayat polls. In addition to this, a poll management committee would also be set up in every district, as per instructions of the core committee, he said.

A meeting of the party State office-bearers was also held on the occasion.
