Telangana reported more than 4,000 dengue cases between April and August this year, according to the latest figures released by the National Centre for Vector Borne Diseases Control (NCVBDC), Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The updated data, uploaded on the NCVBDC website up to August 2025, shows that the State logged a total of 4,296 dengue cases so far this year, with no fatalities reported. The previous update, which covered data up to March, had placed the tally at 267 cases.

The spike coincides with the ongoing monsoon, typically spanning from June to September, a period when vector-borne and water-borne diseases such as dengue, malaria, chikungunya, typhoid, hepatitis, leptospirosis and respiratory infections tend to rise due to mosquito breeding in stagnant water and contamination of food and water sources.

This national-level update comes amid the Telangana Health Department’s silence on seasonal disease figures this year, as it has not released any official data on dengue or related illnesses so far.

In comparison, during the same period last year (up to August 21, 2024), Telangana recorded 4,648 dengue cases, with the annual tally later rising to 10,077 by December. The previous year, 2023, saw 8,016 cases, indicating a continuing high burden of the disease in the State.

Chikungunya cases, too, have shown an upward trend. As per NCVBDC data, Telangana has recorded 252 confirmed cases of chikungunya from 7,176 samples tested until August this year.
