Akie Abe, wife of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, and Tomohiko Taniguchi, chairman of Nippon Kaigi, a right-wing organisation in Japan, met Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale at the organisation’s office in New Delhi on October 8.

A communique issued by the RSS said the meeting focused on ways to strengthen India–Japan relations, with particular emphasis on civilisational ties, cultural cooperation and people-centric initiatives.

The meeting lasted over an hour and featured an exchange of views on deepening engagement between the two countries, the communique said.

“Ms. Abe, Chairperson, Foundation for Social Contribution and Sh. Tomohiko Taniguchi, Chairperson Nippon Kaigi, a prominent Japanese non-governmental organisation, interacted over an hour, reflecting a shared interest in deepening engagement between the two countries,” Sunil Ambekar, the RSS publicity in-charge, said in a post on X.

The RSS said the participants would explore avenues for collaboration to strengthen cultural ties between India and Japan.
