The Cuddalore district police busted a ganja supply and peddling racket and arrested 27 persons, including the prime accused, an Odisha native, and seized 42 kg of ganja in separate incidents.

According to Superintendent of Police S. Jeyakumar, based on specific intelligence inputs that ganja was being smuggled into Cuddalore for distribution across the district, two special teams led by Deputy Superintendents of Police Ruban Kumar (Cuddalore) and P.N. Raja (Panruti) were constituted.

The team led by Mr. Ruban Kumar was conducting vehicle checks on the Customs Road in Cuddalore on Sunday (October 4, 2025) when they found a group in the area under suspicious circumstances. The team nabbed Thangapandi alias Ezhumalai, Siva, Dheena, and nine others and seized 22 kg of ganja from their possession.

The team led by Mr. Raja nabbed 15 others, including the prime accused Pratap Swain from Odisha, from a cashew orchard at Silambinathanpettai near Panruti and seized 20 kg of the contraband from them.

The police said Swain had procured the ganja from Odisha and transported it to Cuddalore with an intention to sell it to peddlers here. The accused were produced before a local court and remanded to custody.

A case has been registered and further investigations are on.
