Circulation of morphed images: polytechnic student surrenders

A 23-year-old polytechnic student surrendered to the police in connection with a case involving the morphing and circulation of obscene pictures of his women classmates and teachers on pornographic websites.

S. Achyuth, a resident of Punnala and a fifth-semester Electrical and Electronics Engineering student at the Punalur Government Polytechnic College, appeared at the Punalur police station on Friday morning. During interrogation by the police, the accused confessed to the crime.

Following his surrender, the police examined the mobile phone used for the digital manipulation. Authorities also traced the Telegram account through which the morphed images were distributed, while the student admitted to having deleted several files. The seized mobile phone will be submitted for technical evaluation by the cyber cell with court permission. According to police, a comprehensive picture of the incident will emerge only after the forensic analysis is completed. The student was later released on station bail by evening.

The controversy erupted on Tuesday when classmates, teachers, and student representatives lodged a formal complaint against the student. Confronted in the presence of the Principal, teachers, and his parents, he initially admitted to the misconduct, prompting college authorities to suspend him indefinitely. Following the incident, student groups had staged massive protests on campus demanding his permanent dismissal from the institution.
