Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Khagen Murmu was hospitalised on Monday (October 6, 2025) afternoon with severe injuries to his head after stones were pelted at a delegation of BJP leaders at Nagrakata in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district, who were visiting the flood and landslide-hit areas for inspection and relief work.

The legislator from Malda Uttar was seen bleeding profusely from his head after he and BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh were surrounded and attacked by a large group of locals. Their vehicle was also vandalised.

“KhagenDa is lying bloodsoaked in the vehicle. Not a single glass pane in the car has been spared. There is shattered glass and stones everywhere inside the car. We are leaving from here immediately to get urgent medical attention,” Mr. Ghosh said on video while on his way to the hospital with Mr. Murmu.

In the video he showed remnants of rocks, shattered glass as well as and injuries sustained by Mr. Murmu who was sitting in the backseat.

The party has alleged that the attack was carried out by people affiliated to Trinamool.

“Today in Nagrakata, while BJP MP Shri Khagen Murmu and Shankar Ghosh, MLA and the chief Opposition whip in the West Bengal Assembly were inspecting flood-affected areas and distributing relief, they were brutally attacked in the presence of the Mamata-police. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the people of Bengal will never forget this cowardice and shamelessness. From yesterday until today, the people of Bengal will punish every one of your immoral and inhuman acts of brutality,” Union Minister and BJP legislator Sukanta Majumdar said.

The incident took place during the BJP delegation’s visit to Jalpaiguri district which, along with Darjeeling and Alipurduar, has been severely affected by heavy rainfall, flood and landslides between October 4 and October 5, leading to the deaths of at least 24 people.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is also set to visit the affected districts later today.
