Nana Patekar’s last speech offers a powerful message on life and death
Towards the end of his speech, he reflected on the fact that everyone has to die one day and shared his thoughts on how one should choose to live. While addressing the event, Nana Patekar said, “Jaana toh sabko hai. Main bhi kal rahoon ya na rahoon, kuch pata nahi. Har kisi ki zindagi mein woh waqt aayega hi (Everyone has to go one day. I may or may not be here tomorrow, no one knows. That time will come for everyone.)”
Nana Patekar also reflected on his own life and said that before thinking about death, one must ask whether they have truly lived and tried to achieve what they wanted. He said, “Lekin usse pehle mujhe khud se poochna chahiye ki mujhe jo karna hai, kya main woh kar paa raha hoon? Kya maine uski koshish ki? Agar main sirf apne tak seemit rahoon – mere bachche, meri patni, mera ghar… bas itne tak hi jeena hai, toh phir… waise hi jiyo aur maro (But before that, I should ask myself whether I am doing what I want to do. Have I at least tried? If I limit myself to just my children, my wife and my home, and that is all there is to life, then… live and die that way).”
For the unversed, Nana Patekar is survived by his wife, Neelkanti, and son, Malhar Patekar. During his long acting career, Nana Patekar worked in both Hindi and Marathi films.
