In a shocking incident, a woman allegedly created her living husband’s death certificate to claim widow pension.

A native of Kanuru village in Krishna district, Yeramsetti Rama Devi was separated from her husband Murali Krishna and had been living alone due to some family disputes. The accused reportedly approached Sanitary Inspector D. Antony and requested him to issue a fake death certificate for her husband in order to claim widow pension.

The Sanitary Inspector reportedly accepted a bribe of ₹15,000 and issued the death certificate.

Following a complaint lodged by Tadigada Municipality officials, the Penamaluru police registered a case and arrested the two, Gannavaram Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) K. Jaya Krishna told The Hindu on Tuesday. “We arrested Rama Devi and Sanitary Inspector Antony on Tuesday and produced them in the court. The accused were remanded in judicial custody,” the DSP said.
