The location feature on the mobile phone helped the Wilson Garden police track down two involved in serial pickpocketing on moving BMTC buses on Saturday.

Following a mobile theft case from a passenger of a BMTC bus from Majestic to Banashankari, the police swung into action and tracked down two accused and recovered seven stolen mobile phones from them.

The police tracked the location and rushed to the spot before zeroing in on two persons within hours. The duo, identified as Kavadi Parashuram, 34, and his associate Saathipati Premkumar, 19, are from Dhone taluk of Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh.

Farooq Pasha M.G., inspector, Wilson Garden, who led the operation, said that the duo were habitual offenders and used to come to the city to pickpocket in crowded buses. They chose the most crowded routes and using their skills stole valuables and got down in the middle before returning to Majestic for the next trip.

After committing a series of thefts, they would return and sell the stolen valuables in the grey market, he said.

This is the second such incident where using technology, the police have cracked cases. A few days ago, a gang involved in a series of house break thefts was arrested after a stolen pair of AirPods helped investigators track them through the ‘Find My device’ feature.
