Houses with 3D-printed concrete walls are to be built in two villages of Andhra Pradesh’s Guntur district under a Central pilot project to test the technology for rural housing under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) 2.0. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan will launch the project at Burripalem near Tenali on October 4, Union Minister of State for Rural Development Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar said on Thursday (October 1, 2026).

The houses will be built using 3D Concrete Printing (3DCP) technology, with technical support from the CSIR-Central Building Research Institute (CBRI), Roorkee.

Under the proposal, 177 houses will be constructed in the two villages. Of these, 100 houses are proposed at Burripalem in Tenali mandal and 77 at Obulnaidupalem/Pothuru in Guntur Rural mandal. Beneficiaries include eligible SC, ST and other categories identified under the project proposal.

The PMAY-G 2.0 unit cost is ₹2.39 lakh. But the detailed engineering estimate, covering site development, house construction, staircase, toilet, ramp and shade wherever required, statutory provisions and GST, is about ₹6.49 lakh per house at Burripalem and ₹6.60 lakh at Pothuru/Obulnaidupalem.

The core house component is estimated at ₹2.50 lakh per unit, with 3D-printed masonry based on the CBRI design forming part of the construction.

The pilot is intended to demonstrate technology-driven rural housing while assessing construction quality, durability, cost components and suitability to local site conditions. The field experience is expected to help evaluate the potential for wider use of 3D Concrete Printing technology in rural housing under PMAY-G.
