Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Smriti Vanam Contract Workers on the second day of their protest staged a ‘bhikshatan’ (protest using begging bowls), demanding immediate payment of nine months’ pending salaries, outside the Ambedkar Smriti Bhavan in Vijayawada on Saturday (October 04, 2025).

Addressing the protesters, Andhra Pradesh Contract and Outsourcing Employees Federation general secretary M. Baburao and Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) city president K. Durgarao demanded that the government should immediately release the pending salaries of the contract workers or face their wrath in the form of intensified State-wide protests.

The protesting workers were however stopped by the police from entering the Smriti Vanam premises. Condemning the police, the workers observed that it was unfortunate that neither the government nor the contractor had not taken note of their financial crisis due to non-payment of wages.

CITU leaders M. Someswara Rao, contract workers M. Sujatha, P. Mary, P. Vijaya Kumari, M. Deepika, Haritha, K. Anusha, K. Dhanalakshmi, P. Satyavati, Ch. Mallika, Manemma, Terujamma, S.K. Zaheeda and others participated in the protest.
