The ruling Bhartiya Janata Party’s National President Nitin Nabin on Friday (September 18, 2026) donated three months of his salary as the Rajya Sabha MP to the Bihar Chief Minister’s Relief Fund toward victims of the recent floods in the State.

About 50 lakh people were affected in the floods across 15 districts of Bihar this year because of “heavy rain and flash flood in rivers originating from neighbouring country Nepal”.

Expressing deep concern over the severe flood situation, Mr. Nabin, who has been a five–time BJP MLA from Bankipur constituency in Patna district, donated his three months’ salary of ₹6.35 lakh in his capacity as a Rajya Sabha member even though “all possible assistance is being provided to the affected families through financial aid, relief camps and assessment of crop damage”.

“The entire government stands firmly with the people during this crisis”, he asserted. Mr. Nabin also said that he “stands fully committed to all flood-affected families in Bihar”.

The State government has already distributed ₹550 crore in direct financial assistance by transferring ₹7,000 to each flood affected family, Mr. Nabin said, adding that the process of assessing crop damage and providing necessary assistance to farmers are being carried out.

Union Agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had recently visited flood- affected districts of the State along with Bihar CM Samrat Choudhary and other top State officials. “Flood in Bihar this time has made extensive damage to life, property, crop production and even to cattle and their livestock and I would talk to the central government for adequate relief to the affected population”, Mr. Chouhan told media persons while assessing the flood damage.

The State government had set up over 1,000 community kitchens, several relief camps and multiple teams of National and State Disaster Response Forces for the relief and rescue operations in the flood-affected districts. Now, much to the relief of affected people, the flood water in major rivers like Ganga, Gandak and Kosi has been receding at several places, including Patna district.

Earlier, the Bihar CM Choudhary had conducted several aerial surveys of the flood-affected areas to monitor the speedy relief and rescue operations.
