The voter list revision for the North-East Teachers’ Constituency of the Karnataka Legislative Council has begun with November 1, 2025, set as the qualifying date. Eligible voters can submit applications for inclusion of their names in the electoral rolls until November 6, said Deputy Commissioner Fouzia Taranum, who is also the Assistant Electoral Registration Officer and Assistant Returning Officer for the constituency.

As part of the schedule, the draft electoral roll will be published on November 25, and objections can be filed until December 10. The final electoral roll will be published on December 30, 2025, Ms. Taranum said in a release.

The regional commissioner, Kalaburagi division, has been designated as the Electoral Registration Officer for the constituency, while the deputy commissioners of Kalaburagi district, the commissioner of Kalaburagi City Corporation, the assistant commissioners of Kalaburagi and Sedam, and the tahsildars of all taluks in the constituency will function as Assistant Electoral Registration Officers. Applications and objections may be submitted to these offices within the prescribed period.

Applications sent by post will be entertained, but such applicants will have to appear before the notified officer for verification. If the applicant fails to attend the hearing or provide documents, the application will be rejected. Even those who were already in the electoral roll must reapply using Form 19.

Eligibility

To be eligible, a person must be an Indian citizen, ordinarily resident in the constituency, and have been engaged in teaching at least at the secondary level in a recognised educational institution within the State for a minimum of three years in the last six years as of September 1, 2025. Applicants must attach a certificate in Annexure-2 issued by the head of their institution.

Bulk applications will not be accepted. However, heads of institutions may submit applications of their staff to the Electoral Registration Officer. Family members can submit each other’s applications, but incorrect information will invite penal action under Section 31 of the Representation of People Act, 1950, Ms. Taranum warned.

Calling upon teachers to actively register themselves, she urged them to strengthen democratic processes by ensuring their participation in the electoral rolls of the Teachers’ Constituency.
