The scientific temper and mathematical talent of school students came to the fore at the The Hindu in School Science Fest (Avishkar) and Math Olympiad 2026 (Ramanujam Spark Quest) organised in Mysuru on Friday.
More than 450 students from Classes 6 to 10 representing over 20 schools participated in the two events held at Leela Channaiah Kalyana Mantapa here. The events provided a platform for students to showcase their creativity, innovation and problem-solving skills and encouraged them to pursue careers in science and mathematics.
The Science Fest featured 42 teams from 20 schools, while the Ramanujam Spark Quest saw the participation of 325 students from 20 schools.
Inaugurating the event, Superintendent of Police Mallikarjuna Balandadi appreciated the initiative for encouraging scientific temper and innovation among children. He advised students to make constructive use of technology to pursue their interests and cautioned them against becoming distracted by electronic gadgets and social media. “School education is an important foundation for your future. Make the best use of your time and focus on building a strong foundation in your studies,” he advised.
Sunad Raj Jain, Vice-Principal, Excellent College, Moodubidre, also spoke and encouraged students to develop a scientific outlook. Information Officer Sharad was present.
A panel of senior lecturers and experts judged the science exhibits, which included models and projects. Students explained their projects to visitors and the judging panel.
The judging panel comprised Gowri Shankar and Chandan of Vidya Vardhaka College of Engineering, Mysuru; Shadaksharaswamy, lecturer, Government PU College; Mahadeva Prasad T.N., professor, Government First Grade College; Lt. Col. (retd.) Sathish; and D.P. Sudhanva, lecturer, Sadvidya PU College, Mysuru.
Excellent College, Moodubidre, was the title sponsor of the event.
In the Class 8 category of the Ramanujam Spark Quest, Ayush Ram G. of NPSI Mysuru won the first prize, followed by Rishaan Harsha of Excel Public School, Mysuru, and Parayush Prasanna of NPSI Mysuru in the second and third places. Consolation prizes went to Ishaan H. Vijay of Manasarowar Pushkarini Vidyashrama, Mysuru; Sinchana M.B. Gowda of VVS B.M. Sri EI, Mysuru; and Yashika S. of Pramati Hill View Academy, Mysuru.
In Class 9, Arnan S. Theja of NPSI Mysuru secured the first prize, while Parnika Rao of NPSI Mysuru and Amogha Udupa of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mysuru, secured the second and third prizes. Rithwik of NPSI Mysuru, Amogha Varsha of Manasarowar Pushkarini Vidyashrama, Mysuru, and Abhay K. Srinivas of Pramati Hill View Academy, Mysuru, received consolation prizes.
In Class 10, Dishanth S. of Excel Public School, Mysuru won the first prize. Harshit K.T. of Hari Vidyalaya, Mysuru, and Divyansh Nigam of NPSI School, Mysuru, secured the second and third prizes respectively. Divyansh D. Kunchi of VVS B.M. Sri EI, Mysuru; Tanay Ullas Suparshwa of NPSI Mysuru; and Aarush S. Gowda of Excel Public School, Mysuru, received consolation prizes.
In the Inter-school Science Fest, Aarna Saini and Shriya M. of Class 8 from Podar International School, Mysuru, won the first prize. Ananya S. and Thanu A. of Class 8 from Excel Public School, Mysuru, secured the second prize, while Sugan and Pradyumna Srinand of NPSI Mysuru bagged the third prize.
In the Class 9 and 10 senior category, Om Melanta and V. Ryan Saket Reddy of National Public School, Mysuru, bagged the first prize. Asfia Fathima A. and Syed Ayaan Mehdi of Class 9, Flos Carmeli School, Mysuru, secured the second prize, while Krishna S. and O. Sai Koushik of Class 9, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mysuru, won the third prize.
Students, teachers and parents welcomed the events, saying they offered young minds an opportunity to develop an interest in science, innovation and mathematics.
