NDPS contraband storage room opened in Eluru district

Collector K. Vetriselvi, along with Superintendent of Police (SP) K. Pratap Shiva Kishore, inaugurated the permanent NDPS Contraband Storage Room near the District Police Office (DPO).

Ms. Vetriselvi said the material seized by departments concerned under the NDPS Act would be preserved and protected case-wise in the facility.

“The storage room, which would be under the control of the judiciary, has been constructed at a cost of ₹30 lakh. Round-the-clock security, CCTVs, the inward and outward registers will be maintained,” an officer told The Hindu on Thursday.

The SP said all drugs, ganja and other contraband seized under Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, will be preserved in the storage room.

Ganja and other material seized and preserved in the temporary contraband room will be shifted to the new room, and steps will be taken to store the seizures station-wise, he said.

“All measures are being taken for safe custody of the seized contraband, such as narcotics drugs, ganja and other material, auditing storage registers and disposal of the seized contraband,” he said.

Officers of the Elite Anti-Narcotics Group for Law Enforcement (EAGLE), Police, Revenue, Nasha Mukth Bharat Abhiyan, Roads and Buildings and other departments participated in the programme.
