Maari, Silent Valley’s prominent watcher-conservationist from the Muduga community, has won this year’s Environment Excellence Award given in memory of G. Prabhakaran, former correspondent of The Hindu.

He will receive the award given under the banner of the Organisation for Industrial, Spiritual and Cultural Advancement (Oisca) Palakkad chapter at a function to be held at Hotel Gazala here on Saturday afternoon.

Writer Asha Menon will give away the award. District Collector M.S. Madhavikutty will inaugurate the function. Municipal Chairperson Prameela Sasidharan will commemorate Prabhakaran.

Prabhakaran’s family instituted the environmental award by offering a prize money of ₹30,000 and a citation. Reji Joseph, Deepika reporter from Kottayam, had won the maiden edition of the award in 2024.
