Police to host anti-drug awareness quiz on October 3

The Kozhikode City police will host a quiz competition titled ‘Family Knowledge Fest against Drug Abuse’ as part of the Commissioner’s Champions League – 2025 against substance abuse at St. Joseph’s Anglo Indian Girls’ High School here on October 3.

“The event, scheduled to commence at 9 a.m., is open exclusively to families residing within the city police district limits. Each participating team must have a minimum of two and a maximum of four family members,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Arun K. Pavithran. The questions will be based on general knowledge, and the winners will be awarded attractive prizes, he added.

According to police officers leading the ongoing anti-drug awareness campaigns, a leaderboard system is being maintained in Kozhikode city to evaluate the monthly anti-drug awareness efforts by various organisations. Participants are earning points through special events such as awareness rallies, marathons, cultural shows, and sessions with doctors, counsellors, enforcement officers and those who have undergone de-addiction treatment, they said.

“We have received a good response from the public who recently enjoyed various stage shows, musical performances, skits and flash mobs as part of the creative awareness campaigns by various youth groups. In the category of sports also, there are now several events on the cards ensuring the presence of football, volleyball, kabaddi, cricket, chess and tug of war teams,” says a Station House officer in Kozhikode city who was once invited as a guest to one of such initial shows. He points out that off-stage events like essay writing, poster making and digital awareness initiatives have also been found circulating the messages against drug abuse.

According to the district-level campaign coordinators, the organisers of each public awareness event will be eligible to claim 10 points. If the participation of people crosses 50, they can claim an additional 5 points. Competition events fetch 20 points, with 10 bonus points for over 50 participants, they added.

Now, the campaign is gaining momentum under the leadership of a special nodal committee headed by senior police officers. Beat police officers are now functioning as local coordinators to make the campaign a success. Station House Officers have started submitting daily and weekly reports for accurate leaderboard updates. Special jury awards are also under consideration for the best and impactful campaigns.
