Anagha Sasi, a research scholar at Thunchath Ezhuthachan Malayalam University, ended her 24-day indefinite protest after the university assured her that her demands would be considered.
The university agreed to convene a doctoral committee meeting, provide the academic facilities required for her research, and take legal action on her complaints.
Ms. Sasi, a research scholar in the Department of Environmental Studies, had launched the protest alleging caste-based discrimination, harassment, and academic denial at the university.
She had alleged that she faced caste-based abuse from teachers and was assigned tasks such as sweeping classrooms, dusting books and files, carrying boxes, and cleaning laboratory equipment.
She had also alleged that she was denied research support and academic facilities, and that her complaints over the past two years had not resulted in effective action. The university had rejected her allegations as unfounded.
