Guntur civic body secures national recognition for air pollution control

Guntur city has secured national recognition for its performance in controlling air pollution, emerging as the second-best city in its category in the Swachh Vayu Sarvekshan 2026 conducted by the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.

Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) Commissioner K. Mayur Ashok received the national award from National Green Tribunal (NGT) Chairperson Justice Prakash Srivastava at a programme organised in New Delhi on Monday (September 7, 2026) as part of Swachh Vayu Diwas celebrations.

According to the GMC here, the city secured the second position in the towns category in a nationwide competition involving 130 cities, bringing recognition to Guntur for its efforts towards improving air quality and protecting the environment.

At the State level, GMC’s 42nd Ward secured the first position in Category-II, covering areas with a population ranging from 10,000 to 30,000.

Commissioner Mayur Ashok congratulated all those who contributed to the city’s environmental protection efforts and expressed his appreciation to the people of Guntur for their support in the city’s achievement.
