It was a memorable morning for the residents of Vijayapura. A large number of girls and women participated in the Women’s Promo run through a route that passed before historical monuments like the Gol Gumbaz. They wore ethnic and traditional dresses. Most of them ran in sarees.

It was organised as a run-up to the Vrikshathon Heritage Run scheduled for December 13.

Ranjitha K.R, professor, and Savita Kallur, dentist, flagged off the event in front of the Gagan Mahal. The participants ran till the Gol Gumbaz and reached Gagan Mahal.

They raised slogans like ‘If she runs, the path becomes wider’ and ‘The step she takes is a message about environment protection’, etc. Students from various colleges and universities, employees and others participated, as volunteers distributed energy drinks and sweets.

B.K. Saroja from Brahmakumari Ishwariya Vishvavidyalaya gave the vow for freedom from addiction and conducted a brief meditation session. Many Brahmakumaris and elderly women also ran.

Dr. Kallur said that it was a wonderful initiative to involve women in such activities.

“I am very happy to see women participating enthusiastically in such a large number. Every one should register now to participate in the Vrikshathon Heritage Run Marathon to be held on December 13,” she said.

She promised to participate in the heritage run. Superintendent of Police Laxman Nimbaragi’s father Basavaraj Nimbaragi and mother Gurubai also participated.

Renuka Prasad, a yoga expert and marathon runner, had trained most of the participants. “There are still three months left for the Vrikshathon Heritage Run, and during this period, I will train the participants on projects that will enable them to run more kilometres. I ask all of you to run with confidence,” he said.

Savitri Davleshwar entertained them with Zumba dance. Stalls were set up to register for the heritage run on December 13, and a 10% discount was given to those who registered. Women were clicking pictures at selfie stands and posting them on the Vrikshathon social media platforms. They were asked to participate in the house and garden competition held as part of the vrikshathon.

Sangeeta Mathapati and Subhashchandra Kannur anchored the event.

Vrikshathon core committee members Gurushantha Kapase, Chandrakanth Shetty, Ashpak Managuli, Shivanagowda Patil, Santosh Aurasang, Veerendra Guchatti, Raju Yalagond, Praveen, promo run in charge Shivu Kumbar, Amit Biradar, Ramesh Biradar and Koti Vriksha Abhiyan coordinator Murugesh Pattanshetty were present.
