A 62-year-old migrant worker was killed after he was assaulted by a gang of four persons in Nolambur on Saturday (September 5, 2026) night.

City police said N. Abjith Mondal, a native of West Bengal, was working at a construction site at Gajalakshmi Nagar of Nolambur. Four persons from the same locality who were in an inebriated condition approached Mondal on Saturday night about 10.15 p.m.  and demanded a cigarette.

When he refused, an argument ensued, and the assailants picked up a wooden log from the ground and attacked him. He sustained severe head and body injuries in the attack and was admitted to Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital by the residents in the locality. However, he died in the early morning on Sunday.

The Nolambur police arrested four persons – V. Vaseegaran (18), R. Ajay (18), S. Gokul Raj (18) and R. Sabari, for the murder.
