The elevated corridor, inaugurated by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday, is set to drastically bring down the travel time between Malakpet and the Inner Ring Road by circumventing several traffic choke points enroute.
Despite administrative sanction way back in 2018 as part of the Strategic Road Development Plan envisaging signal free travel within the city, the 3.23 kilometre grade separator took abnormally longer for completion due to various reasons such as the COVID-19 pandemic, change of regime in the State and funding problems. This is despite the use of steel components for faster completion, akin to another long flyover from Indira Park to VST Junction.
With the main viaduct 2.53 kilometres long and 16.61 metres wide with four lanes, the structure takes off from Nalgonda Crossroads, flies over the Chanchalguda, Saidabad and IS Sadan junctions, to land at Champapet.
The project aims to reduce commuter travel time by 30 minutes, eliminate intermittent delays, and curb air pollution through minimised fuel consumption, reads the project specification. The project cost is ₹620 crore. Commuters may now cross the junctions within less than 10 minutes.
