A 39-year-old contract worker died of electrocution while working on a Bescom electricity pole near Sulibele Road in Devanahalli on Wednesday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Palayya. He was working as a contract employee under a Bescom contractor, Ravish/Margadarulu Gangadhar.

According to the complaint, the incident occurred around 5 p.m. on Wednesday, near the T.T. Bande Road and Marishammapalya Light area. Palayya had climbed an electricity pole to carry out work when he came into contact with a live electrical line and suffered an electric shock. He died on the spot.

The complaint alleges possible lapses in following mandatory electrical safety procedures, including Line Clearance/Shutdown (LC), supervision and provision and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

The complainant has urged a comprehensive investigation into the roles and possible negligence of the Bescom officials concerned, the lineman and contractor responsible for the work.

A case has been registered at Devanahalli Police Station under Section 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and police are investigating the circumstances that led to the electrocution. The investigation is also expected to examine relevant Bescom records, including shutdown/line-clearance documents, work orders and safety compliance records.
