BJP Tamil Nadu president Nainar Nagenthran on Thursday (October 2, 2025) contended that the incident of sexual assault on a 19-year-old woman by two policemen in Tiruvannamalai showed that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin had no control over the Police department.

Speaking to reporters in Chennai, Mr. Nagenthran said the Tiruvannamalai case was not the first such under the DMK government. He alleged that several instances of police excesses had taken place in the State since the DMK came to power, and demanded action against erring officials.

Mr. Nagenthran also raised a series of questions to the State government regarding the arrangements for the rally addressed by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay on September 27 in Karur, where 41 people died in a stampede. “Why was the power supply cut during the event? Why was permission not given for a larger venue? Why was there a lathi charge?” he asked.

Mr. Nagenthran said the delegation of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) MPs that visited Karur recently would submit its report to the BJP’s central leadership. He dismissed allegations that Mr. Vijay was under the “grip” of the BJP. “He [Mr. Vijay] has already said the BJP is his party’s rival and has been consistently criticising our party. How can he be under the BJP’s control?” he said in response to a question raised by a reporter.
