A team of doctors from B.L.D.E. Deemed University B.M. Patil Medical College and Hospital saved the life of a poor woman with a complex brain surgery.
Renavva Nalatwada, 47, of Chittaragi village in Hunagunda taluk of Bagalkot district in Karnataka was suffering from severe grade-4 subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) and right middle cerebral artery (MCA) bifurcation aneurysm. The rupture of the aneurysm caused severe bleeding around the brain. CT and angiography tests revealed a bilobed aneurysm in the right MCA bifurcation. Seeing the seriousness of the situation, the doctors suggested urgent microsurgical treatment.
The doctors clipped the neck of the aneurysm during the surgery while safely preserving the important MCA branches and the delicate perforator veins that supply blood to the brain. Despite being in a critical condition, the patient’s recovery was excellent, with no new neurological deficits observed after the surgery.
The patient was discharged from the hospital on the seventh day after the surgery and has returned home healthy, the doctors said.
Timely diagnosis, immediate surgery, expert medical team, and comprehensive intensive care co-ordination saved the patient’s life.
The entire treatment was carried out free of cost under the Ayushman Bharat- Arogya Karnataka (AB-ArK) scheme.
M. B. Patil, Minister and BLDE president, congratulated the team led by Mallappa Huggi that carried out the surgery.
