A day after taking charge of the A.P. Green Executive Committee as its chairman, K. Nagendra Rao (Nagababu), along with his wife Padmaja, planted peepal and neem trees together at Aranyamam in Mangalagiri on Saturday.

Mr. Nagababu urged people to plant saplings, protect them, and help increase green cover in the State. He observed that peepal and neem trees help maintain a clean environment and conserve biodiversity.

Hitting out at the previous government, he alleged that the YSRCP government only thought of cutting down trees and it did not care to compensate for the loss of green cover, asserting that India should strive to become a role model for other countries in increasing green cover.

Meanwhile, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests P.V. Chalapathi Rao said the Aranyaramam was planned to be built at a cost of ₹24 crore within 10 months and pointed out that 73 trees that had to be removed were successfully transplanted in different locations.
