Women aged 60 years and above will be eligible for lifelong free travel on all Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) buses under the Lokmata Ahilyabai Matrushakti Yojana approved by the State Cabinet on Tuesday (August 25, 2026).

“The Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken an important decision towards women’s empowerment and providing them with better transportation facilities. Taking forward the resolve of ‘Sashakt Nari’ under the Lok Kalyan Sankalp-2022, the State government has announced free travel facilities for women above 60 years of age in ordinary buses of the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation. The decision will provide financial relief to senior women while giving them greater independence and convenience in commuting,” reads an official statement.

According to an estimate, around 88,438 women passengers could avail themselves of this facility every day. ”This will provide women relief from their daily commuting expenses. Public transport will become particularly more accessible for women above 60 years of age who need to travel regularly for various purposes,” added the government.

Under the scheme, special smart cards will be provided by the Transport Corporation to women above 60 years of age to ensure systematic implementation of the free travel facility. The smart cards will facilitate the identification of eligible women passengers and the arrangement for free travel.
