New Delhi:

Mirzapur: The Movie takes audiences back to the timeline of the first season of the popular series. Harshita Gaur, who reprises her role as Dimpy Pandit, in an exclusive chat with India TV, revealed that the film is set between two episodes of Season 1, while also functioning as a standalone story.

Speaking about where the film fits into the timeline, Harshita said that the story begins after Episode 6 and eventually merges into the events of Episode 7.

Mirzapur: The Movie connects to Season 1 but brings a new story

Harshita explained that the film contains several elements that will connect with viewers who have followed the series. She also teased a new Rajasthan-based universe featuring actors Ravi Kishan, Sonal and Mohit, which she believes will bring a different flavour to the franchise.

Harshita revealed, “So there’s a lot of new things that are happening. It will be fun for audiences to intersect with something they have already seen and when they see these scenes in the film, they’ll be like, oh, this is why this scene happens in season one. So all of those things are also there and something which is very new is this Rajasthan universe where there’s Ravi Kishan, Sonal, Mohit; they have all come into Mirzapur world. What new flavour that they are bringing to the table, that would be very interesting for the audience to watch.”

She added that the film does not feel disconnected from Season 1 despite exploring something new as she added, “For the audiences who have not even watched the series, they would still understand the film. But for the ones who have watched the Mirzapur series, it’s, it’s a block between episode 6 and episode 7 of season one. And it’s almost like when the film starts is where episode 6 ends and the film sort of ends and merges into where episode 7 starts.”

Harshita Gaur says the film can be watched as a standalone

According to Harshita, viewers do not necessarily need to have watched Mirzapur before watching the film. While longtime fans will spot Easter eggs and references to the series, she believes the film has enough context to work independently. The actress added, “So it was not out of the timeline of season one, but yet it’s something very fresh and new for audiences to watch. I’m saying that it’s a block between episode 6 and episode 7, but that does not mean that anybody who’s not seen the season cannot see the film, because the film in itself is very standalone.”

She further explained, “See, easter eggs are there in the film, only for the seasoned people, but that does not matter if you’re watching the film for the first time; you won’t get it. The most beautiful part of this film is that it caters to both audiences.”

Harshita Gaur on Dimpy’s character growth

Harshita also spoke about returning to Dimpy for a story that goes back to the character’s Season 1 personality. She explained that Dimpy has not fundamentally changed, but the film places her in a different situation and allows the actor to explore new nuances.

“The character has not essentially changed because it can’t change. Also, they’re going back to season one. So the essence of every character is how they were in season one. But what has changed is that we are showing you the same dynamic, same characters, but in a very different scenario. I got to do some new things. I got to dance. There were new nuances to my character,” Harshita told India TV.

Harshita Gaur says Dimpy’s strength lies in refusing violence

Reflecting on Dimpy’s journey, Harshita said she understands the character differently now compared with when she first played her. She recalled initially questioning why Dimpy did not want to embrace violence despite being surrounded by it.

“When I first met Dimpy, I was also younger; I also had a very naive energy. There were times when I couldn’t understand why Dimpy didn’t want to be violent. But now I understand her. Like, I understand the fact that she’s not someone who wants to be violent to get her point. She is someone who really believes in her quiet strength. She does not want to be part of the chaos, and she wants to navigate a life which is normal and there is no harm in wanting that.”

Mirzapur: The Movie cast

Mirzapur: The Movie features several familiar faces from the series, including Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyenndu and Shweta Tripathi Sharma, alongside Harshita Gaur. The film also expands the universe with new characters and actors, including Ravi Kishan. The film will be released in theatres on September 4, 2026.
